Simon produced a compelling tender and was subsequently appointed to carry out a review of the standard processes in our library service. His brief was to review and validate existing routines in the static libraries and to recommend appropriate staffing levels, opportunities for savings, ensure optimum efficiencies and consider the impact of current and proposed additional services offered within libraries, including the increased use of self-service machines. Providing quality customer service was also a key consideration for us, as well as the importance of involving staff at all levels to gain buy-in and to capture thoughts.

Having produced a detailed project plan, Simon provided an extensive report that thoroughly covered the project remit, including a variety of findings and recommendations that we have subsequently taken forward. He also left us with a tool to enable us to continually forecast and compare library staffing requirements by hour and day, and has always provided timely and supportive follow-up as we have moved forward with this.

We were so happy with Simon’s work within the library service that he was subsequently appointed to conduct a similar review of the registration service, as well as our central bibliographic, archiving and Schools Library and Museum services.
